Surfing Dog Event at Huntington Beach

The third annual Huntington Beach Surf City Surf Dog event took place last Sunday at the largest dog friendly beach in California!

 This year’s event saw the return of champion surf dog, Abbie (an Australian Kelpie) who set a canine record for riding the longest wave.

 

This feat was witnessed by Frederikke (Freddie)Hoff, an official from the Guinness Book of Records flown in from NYC to witness the record achievement (a distance of 60 meters).

Huntington Beach was named the official DogTown 2009 by Dog Fancy magazine, as a city that "receives dogs with open arms and provide them with the joys of life."

        Well, I must agree.  Mom and I stayed once again at the fido fabulous Shorebreak Hotel-which hosted the Surf City Surf Dog event, including canine fashion show and costume contest. 


Manager, Marco Perry and the hotel staff go way beyond pet friendly, even letting canine guests order from the Pet menu and dine on the restaurant terrace.

Mom was really impressed by the cool decor (surfing theme) and the no pet deposit policy.

Doggie Fashion Show at Shorebreak Hotel in Huntington Beach

Well, I do think of myself as a canine fashionista and with that in mind, when I heard about this Friday's Doggie Fashion Show (couture, bien sur!) at the pet friendly Shorebreak Hotel, in Huntington beach, I made sure Mom was planning on attending (she was).

So, I will be sitting front row (perhaps beside Gwyneth P?) reporting on the fund-raising event featuring Dog is Good people and pet wear.

This is the kick off event to the 3rd Annual Surf City Surf Dog Surf Competition including a pet bathing suit competition on Saturday and the actual Surf Event on Sunday.

The Shorebreak Hotel is featuring a Dog is Beachin' VIP Package.  Mom and I stayed there last year and we loved it!  Mom really appreciated the cool and casual decor and "no pet deposit required"- sweet!

Gloria Estevan confesses...

"I'm totally animal-oriented," Gloria Estefan has confessed.

"I've got nine dogs, eight birds, turtles, fish and I had wallabies at one point," confessed Gloria Estevan during a recent interview.

Well, that settled the matter.  I knew that Gloria was going to be at The Grove (the high end shopping center in Los Angeles) promoting her new dance music album, "Miss Little Havana" the first English recording in several years, and I had to be there.

We got there in time to catch "E"'s Mario Lopez (he sure has some great dimples!) interviewing Gloria about her new album and also had the chance to visit with her husband, Emilio, famous music producer and co-founder of the Miami Sound Machine.

Emilio and I really bonded and he introduced me to the staff of the "E" show.

Did you know that Gloria has written two children's books? "The Magically Mysterious Adventures of Noelle the Bulldog"(2005) and Noelle's Treasure Tales (2006) about her rescue bulldog that she adopted from Colombia

"I had gotten her for my son, who wanted a bulldog.  She would have died had she stayed (in Colombia). So I say I saved her life, she changed mine. She's an amazing dog and really inspired everything that's in this book.
"

Gloria told me "I'm working on another Noelle the Bulldog book."
